In reaction to hardening borders, It is certain that we too shall see / Wa yubqa wajho rabboka / wehna kaman hanshoof used the Sufi tradition of dance as a means to transcend the physical and a starting point for surmounting distance and difference, through creativity encountering humanity - and perhaps divinity.
A remote collaboration between Jo Tyabji, Milk Presents' associate director, film maker Sami Yassin (Egypt) and choreographer Nagham Salah Othman (Egypt / Sudan) exploring borders, international borders but also borders within ourselves and identity. Working remotely between London & Cairo the performance in June 2020 saw the culmination of new creative collaborations & ways of working still very much in the development phase. It was the first time the team had shown anything and tested it in front of an audience and were so excited to see how it worked - both in Cairo & in London.
The collaboration was commissioned by New Conversations Egypt with support from Old Diorama Studios & Battersea Arts Centre.
New Conversations is a creative partnership between Farnham Maltings and Orient Productions creating four commissions awarded to enable Egyptian and British performing artists and companies to develop new performance works together and imaginatively test new ways of collaborating without meeting in person as part of the New Conversations programme supported British Council and Arts Council England.
