We are working with four apprentices, for seven weeks each, specialising in directing and producing. The apprentice will shadow company members alongside professional projects, learning tangible skills for working in the independent theatre sector and have the opportunity to develop their own projects.
Who’s it for?:
* LQBTQIA+ indentifying artists aged 18+ who are resident in the UK, and who have not entered higher education (University, BA, MA etc).
* Folx with additional access needs – we encourage you to apply.
* We can help support child care costs if this is a barrier as well.
* We actively encourage applications from QTIBPOC artists.
* We have provision to respond to access needs on an individual basis.
Note: You don’t need loads of experience – just a commitment to making performance and enthusiasm to get involved.
From the apprenticeship I was able to gain a better understanding of what it means the create a show. Young queer people don’t get enough opportunities, let alone paid ones, so this is important to help them both develop as artists and people. I learnt so much about both the theatre world and queer culture that I wasn’t exposed to and wouldn’t have been from where I live and grew up. Being a black queer woman I don’t always get to be exposed to this amazing colourful community that I’m so proud to be apart of. I can’t thank Milk enough for taking me on the road and shaping me into an out loud and proud creative.
